Das Projekt einer deutschsprachigen Kaiserliteratur im Schlesien des 17. Jahrhunderts

Abstract : The Silesian Renaissance project of an imperial literature in German was conceived to serve the leader of the Protestant Union, Frederick V of the Palatinate, who was expected to become Emperor after having been elected King of Bohemia in 1619. After the Habsburg victory, the project finished up as a literature of opposition. This article shows how the literary school of Martin Opitz reacted to the antagonism between German national literature and the Habsburg Emperors, and how the poets tried to overcome it via strategies ranging from acerbic criticism to total submission.
