Abstract : The history of game styles is still a field that has been little explored by football historians, especially when you target on the original forms to follow the implementation of football organizations in the North of France. Only the local sports newspapers enables to identify the birth and slow spring process of specific games styles, from late 1800s until the soaring of professionalism, in the early thirties. Even if the styles in northern teams tend to copy the classical “kick and rush” and WM strategies, they stand out through their exceeding physical presence, and their offensive priority, which partly contribute to the early popularity of this game in the Nord - Pas-de-Calais. In the twenties, the requirements of contests update the patterns used so far, and the core of the game shift from the front to the middle field. less impressive, the game gains efficiency. The players must from now on comply with the coach rules and develop specific physical and tactical skills; according to their position on the football ground. Thinking the games strategies takes progressively into account the sport show dimension and helps the process of identity for the clubs quoted.
