Magie du numérique : l’ordinateur comme boîte à merveilles

Abstract : A sense of digital magic pervades our relationship to networked computers, like a new form of the old animism which caracterize the ambivalent stance humans take towards technology. The perfect simultaneity of two socio-cultural phenomemons at the turn of the century ‒ the growing access to high-speed Internet connexions and the huge success of fantastic genres in literature and medias ‒, could well be no coincidence after all. In this paper will be examined two types of fictional representations of digital magic in novels and films (the ghost in the machine, the computer as portal to other worlds) as well as their use in commercial advertising.
