Proposition d'un indicateur de durabilité pour la détection des réactions de gonflement interne dans le béton

Abstract : The aim of the thesis, carried out at the LMDC (Materials and Durability of Construction Laboratory) of Toulouse in collaboration with the IRSN (Institute of Radioprotection and Nuclear Safety) of Marne Valley, is to propose a sustainability indicator allowing to evaluate the state of development of the internal swelling reactions in the concrete of existing structures. This thesis is a part of the extension of the operating life of nuclear reactors from 40 to 60 years. These pathologies can be attributed to two types of chemical reactions: the Internal Sulfate Reaction (ISR) and the Alkali-Aggregate Reaction (AAR). These reactions cause, when they develop, the setting in traction of the concrete leading to the creation of cracks in the structure affected by these pathologies. For several years now, the performance-approach to concrete durability has been developed as a replacement for a prescriptive approach: the performance-approach consists in understanding the durability of concretes by considering not only the data related to the formulation but certain characteristics or properties material known to be of interest for predicting the evolution thereof when exposed to given environmental conditions. However, this approach mainly concerns exogenous pathologies of concrete; there is a real scientific interest to use this approach in the case of endogenous type of degradation such as AAR and ISR, which will make it possible to predict the evolution of these pathologies within the concrete. To answer these problems, the study will focus on the research of the correlations between the evolutions of the different physic-chemical and mechanical parameters according to the state of development of the pathologies. The experimental program has been used to propose sustainability indicators that are sensitive to the presence of internal swelling reaction and to enable their detection at the beginning of their development. Three cases were studied: ISR, AAR and AAR and ISR coupling. A detecting and monitoring method is proposed for each pathology.
